Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is Scripps Networks located in Knoxville, Tennessee?
HGTV founder Ken Lowe identified Knoxville as the perfect location to plant and grow the emerging network in 1994. He chose the location because of an existing production facility and a strong pool of television production talent on which to draw. He also saw Knoxville as a welcoming and affordable community that would enable the network's employees to live the lifestyle they were representing on the air. The centralized location and temperate climate also are advantages for doing field production out of Knoxville. Over the next decade, HGTV was joined by Food Network, DIY Network, FINE LIVING TV and Great American Country (GAC) to comprise the Scripps Networks, headquartered in Knoxville with offices around the county.

What is the relationship between Scripps Networks, The E.W. Scripps Company and Scripps Howard News Service?

Scripps Networks is a division of The E. W. Scripps Company, a diverse media concern with interests in national lifestyle cable networks, newspaper publishing, broadcast television stations, electronic commerce and interactive media. The parent company also operates Scripps Howard News Service and United Media, which is the worldwide licensing and syndication home of Peanuts, Dilbert and 150 other features and characters.
